The site is designed to introduce you to the current councillors and their responsibilities and to provide information on the village of Stanton on the Wolds. Minutes of past meetings are available together with the annual report and financial summary for the last year.
The 'Parish News' was first issued in 2004 as a bi-monthly broadsheet of items of local interest. All issues are now available on-line as part of this website. Planning applications and decisions may also be viewed. There are useful sections listing local groups and societies, the history of the village, Neighbourhood Watch news and a printable map of Stanton showing the Public Footpaths. The Parish Council
At the moment nobody is quite sure when the Parish Council was created. It is widely held that the parish affairs were previously looked after by Keyworth Parish Council, which was itself established in 1894. Both councils came under Bingham RDC which was replaced by Rushcliffe Borough Council in 1974. The Clerk to Stanton Parish Council has deposited some material in the Nottingham Archives and this includes previous council Minutes, councillors attendance records and a cash book listing payments and petty cash. A black hard-back A4 sized book contains Minutes of Parish Council meetings and Minutes of the Parish Annual meetings (Nottingham Archives PAC/72/2/1). The earliest known Minutes of a Parish Council Meeting are dated 22nd February 1963. The Minutes of the Annual Parish meetings commence with that of the Third such meeting held on the 29th March 1963 which refers to the second meeting held on the 21st April 1962. Was the first Annual parish Meeting thus held in 1961 ? The situation becomes even more confused when the Stanton on the Wolds Parish Council Cash Book for payments and petty cash is examined (Nottingham Archives PAC/72/53) The first entry is dated 16th September 1946. The total expenditure for the year ending March 3rd 1947 was £1 7s 7d. If anyone knows the date when the parish council was first convened we would be very interested to know.
The Stanton on the Wolds Parish Council consists of seven councillors including the Chair and Vice-chair, together with the Clerk to the Council. Elections are held on a four yearly basis with the next elections due to be held in May 2011.

The Parish
Stanton on the Wolds is a small village of 1527 acres lying some 8 miles south east of Nottingham in the Borough of Rushcliffe. The 'Wolds' of south Nottinghamshire were created as rolling upland plateau land as a direct result of the ice ages, when substantial thicknesses of boulder clay were deposited during the thawing of the ice sheets. Much of the land consists of heavy clay soils with patches of sandy gravel on the higher areas. The centre of the old village of Stanton was clustered around the Manor House and parish church on an area of land that lies between Stanton Lane and Browns Lane. The main employment has always been centred around the local farms. It was not until the land sales of the late 1920s and 1930s that development proceeded at the east end of Browns Lane and along the A606 Melton Road. Much of the land was sold off in plots that varied in size between 1 and 10 acres. This lead to the development of small agricultural units that included a piggery, a plant nursery, poultry units and a garden centre. For most of its history the village population has remained fairly steady at a figure varying between 90 and 160 people. The 1991 Census showed the population had risen to 449 people. Ten years later in 2001 the population was 404 inhabiting 167 properties.
