NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH – HELP IS NEEDED The relatively new Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Watch Association organisation held a meeting on Monday 10th May in the Keyworth Village Hall to attempt to generate some interest. There are basically two schemes in Stanton; one for the end of Stanton Lane which shades onto Keyworth’s Nicker Hill which Paul Roebuck from Stanton organises with Brian Hunt and about a dozen street co-ordinators who have about 5 houses each on average. Paul is also chairman of the Borough wide ‘Runway’ association. The other scheme covers Melton Road and that end of Browns Lane and was run by martin Danielson with about three or four street co-ordinators. Martin has been doing this work for far longer than Paul who has been in post for nearly seven years but feels that it is time to stand down. There is therefore a need for someone to take on the task and anyone interested can contact Martin on 937 5069 or Paul on 937 6636. The work of the chief co-ordinator involves ensuring that as many houses as possible are covered by the scheme, and picking up the current organisation and using it in your own way. One of the main advantages of Neighbourhood Watch is the Rushcliffe ‘Ringmaster’ Scheme whereby messages about such as unsavoury characters, dodgy scams etc are sent out by phone or Email, warning of potential criminals in the area. And at the same time it helps to develop a useful relationship with the local police beat officer. The next meeting of the Stanton Lane Scheme is on Monday 12th July at the Golf Club at 7:30pm. Everyone is welcome. IN THE CHAIR AGAIN Councillor Bryan Baines has been re-appointed Chairman of the Parish Council for a second term of office since taking over from Bill Dargue, who did not stand for re-election to the council last May. Vice chairman remains as Dennis Hackett, the appointments being confirmed at the council’s annual meeting in May. EARLY MORNING DUTY The clerk to the Parish Council, Mike Elliott, took on an early morning duty to represent Stanton at the launch of the Rushcliffe Borough Corporate Strategy – at 8:30am on Thursday 27th May. APPOINTED The following councillors have been appointed to special responsibilities for the coming year as follows: Footpaths Officer, Councillor Alan Jackson; Rushcliffe Local Agenda 21 (now RAPAC), Councillor Roy Butler; Planning, Councillor Jim Goodman with assistance from Councillor Bryan Baines; Transport Officer, Councillor Alan Jackson. IT’S THE GROWING SEASON…..! At this time of the year the Parish Council usually- and already have received, a number of complaints from residents about overgrown hedges and makes an appeal for householders to ensure that their frontage hedges are kept well cut back to avoid causing problems for people passing by on foot, with invalid buggies and pushchairs. An overgrown hedge easily becomes a danger to someone walking by and being hit in the face. In extreme cases Notts County Council can be asked to carry out the work and to charge the hedge owner for it. GOING TO CHURCH……! Services at All saints Parish Church are at 10am on the first Sunday of the month, 6pm on the second and fourth and 9:30am on the third. A new direction sign pointing to the church is to be erected on Browns Lane being funded partly by the Parish Council and the Church itself. COMMENTS SOUGHT ON NEW KEYWORTH HEALTH CENTRERushcliffe Primary Care Trust are seeking comments from local residents on the facilities for the proposed new Health Centre at Keyworth. In a statement issued locally, Mr Mark Morgan, Chief Executive to the Trust, says that the proposed new centre will replace the current one on Bunny lane and will offer more services to the local community. The present building is currently in two parts; the GP Practice and the Health Centre. The former is run by the GP Practice along with the Practice Nurse clinics while the Primary Care Trust (PCT) runs the Health Centre services such as district nursing, health visiting and chiropody/podiatry services. “The two work closely together to ensure services meet the needs of local residents,” says Mr Morgan. The PCT and the local GPs are leading the development of the new Primary Care Centre with the Parish and Borough Councils and Mr Morgan says he hopes that local people will play a hand in saying what they feel is needed in the centre facility planned to be built. Mr Morgan says that any comments received will be anonymous and there will be no way that responses can be traced to individual households or patients. “Whilst we cannot guarantee that everything you say will be included, your input will make a difference,” is the message to everyone from Mr Morgan. “There is no point in us developing a centre if it doesn’t match people’s needs, “ he adds. A questionnaire is available for completion and information on that is available from Lynne Sharp at the PCT on 0115 956 0300. The new centre will go on part of the Rushcliffe Borough Council car park on Bunny Lane. The loss in car park space because of the building will be regained by using the area of land which currently houses the existing health centre. BUS SURVEY COULD LEAD TO CUTSNotts County Council are currently undertaking a survey of rural bus services in respect of the amount of funding they make available to support them, the Parish Council have been told. The parish Transport representative, Councillor Alan Jackson says the survey includes the local No 29 service. It is feared a drop in subsidy allowances made by the County Council could follow. RECYCLINGRushcliffe Borough Council have announced an extension of their Recycling2Go Scheme that will see the whole parish provided with wheelie bins. FOOTPATHSThe council have supported a diversion of Footpath No 7. COUNCIL VACANCYFollowing the resignation of Councillor Ken Kirk, there is a vacancy on the Parish Council. The necessary notice advising of this post was posted on the 10th May and unless an election is called for, the vacancy will be filled by co-option. The council have written to Mr Kirk to thank him for his services. His father, the late Mr Fred Kirk, had also been a member of the council. A46 DUALLING SCHEMEThe Highways Agency have announced a £171million scheme to dual the A46 road from Newark to Widmerpool, with the work due to start in the year 2007 and take 2 years to complete.
