HELP IS ON LINE FOR STANTON’S CARERSHOME ALARM SERVICE IS BEING EXTENDEDStanton on the Wolds residents are being asked if they know a carer that really needs a break or someone who feels vulnerable in their own home. Rushcliffe Borough Council’s home alarm service is now available to anyone who needs to know that someone is going to be there to provide reassurance, give advice or obtain assistance for them 24 hours a day. The Council’s Housing Support Manager, Pat Hall, said “We are encouraging carers to consider taking up our service in order to help them to take a break knowing that their friend or relative is in safe hands. For a single payment of less than £30 + VAT* we will install a Lifeline Alarm Unit in their home and provide a 24 hour call monitoring service for up to 11 weeks. At the end of the rental period the unit can be returned to us or be retained indefinitely on our standard quarterly contract. The service is available to anyone of any age, who is temporarily incapacitated as a result of a serious illness, an injury or following surgery. In these circumstances the short-term rental of a home alarm provides that extra security and peace of mind necessary to make recuperation at home a safer option. Although Lifeline Alarms were originally only installed for older or disabled people, the service is now offered to all vulnerable people of any age provided that they live in the Borough. * In most cases the charge is zero-rated for VAT purposes. A member of the Housing Support team can be contacted by telephoning us on 0115 981 3227, by Faxing us on 0115 982 5196 or by Emailing to homealarms@rushcliffe.gov.uk. More information about the service can also be found on Rushcliffe’s web site – www.Rushcliffe.gov.uk/housing and then click on ‘Emergency Alarms. NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH APPEAL TO LOCK IT OR LOSE ITBurglaries through insecuritiesStanton’s Neighbourhood Watch Scheme is appealing to residents to play their part in keeping crimes down. A spokesman says they recently had some success with the ‘Lock It Campaign’ relating to burglary of domestic premises through insecurities, however the good work has been undone and as the hot weather arrives the doors and windows are being left open. It takes a burglar less than 3 minutes to get in and out of a secure house so by the time you walk round to the back of your house he is in and out of the front. When the Police and Crime Scene Investigators attend burglaries they make a note if it is an insecure property and if an approach is made by your insurance company they will inform them accordingly. This may or may not lead to complications regarding restitution. The group are appealing for residents to pass this message on to as many people as possible. This type of burglary is avoidable and last month 54.4% of burglaries were by this method. In Bingham recently 7 burglaries occurred between 7pm and 7am, 6 of them through insecurities. URBAN ARTS DAY FOR YOUTHThe Parish Council at Stanton have agreed to help publicise an Urban Arts day being staged by Rushcliffe Borough Council and being held at the Country Park, Ruddington on September 8th. The event is specially designed to allow young people to be together and participate in youth cultural activities. Rushcliffe are working with Nottinghamshire Youth Service and Dance 4 to organise the event and activities will include youth bands, Djing, beat box, spray can art, break dancing, percussion, film animation and skateboarding competitions. SOCIAL EVENT WAS A BIG SUCCESSThe success of the Stanton Summer Fayre held on Saturday 12th June has been underlined by the number of favourable comments made by people attending the event. The function was a great success and organisers have been praised for their hard work. Parish Council Chairman, Councillor Bryan Baines said; “On behalf of the residents of Stanton I would like to thank all those parishioners involved in the organisation of the ‘Summer Fayre’ held on Church Field. Over 100 people, young and old, had a wonderful day out sampling the delights of a variety of activities from a bouncy castle, skittles, tombola and raffle, to games and quizzes, a buffet tea and bar. All were well supported and background music was provided by a French lady accordion player.” “ Although not originally part of the arrangements we even had a flypast of an air force formation flight and an assortment of older aircraft taking part in a local flying display,” added Councillor Baines. “It seems that there may be a small profit which will be divided between the Church and a village amenity yet to be determined”, he said. Local Rector, Father Trevor Sisson concurred with the favourable thoughts and said when presenting the prizes “It was a really good get together for Stanton folk, their families and friends”. Added the Chairman; “I support his comments fully and look forward to a repeat at some time in the future.” GARDEN SHEDS A TARGETLight-fingered criminals are being given a helping hand by green-fingered householders who persistently leave garden and allotment sheds insecure. Over 6500 shed break-ins were reported to Nottinghamshire Police in 2003, with the problem spiralling between May and July. In South Notts alone a staggering 44% increase was recorded in that period compared to October to December figures. Summer is the time of year when criminals know avid gardeners are replacing old equipment and tools. Stolen property of this kind is highly desirable to criminals as it’s virtually untraceable once sold on at car boor sales, other cash in hand venues or through internet auction sites. Sheds stockpiled with crates of beer and wines ready for barbecue-friendly weather may also contribute to the trend. Bits and BobsKeyworth Library has extended its opening hours. It no longer closes for lunch and is to open throughout the day and until 4pm on Saturdays. It is closed on Wednesdays. Telephone number for information is 937 3509. Keyworth’s Annual Show took place on Saturday 10th July on the village playing field. Many Stanton residents attended the popular event. It has been confirmed that Keyworth South Wolds School is oversubscribed for Year 7 for this September. Anyone due to join in September next year is being advised to get their applications in quickly. The public are invited to take part in meetings of the parish council during a special item on the agenda when the meeting is opened to anyone in attendance who may have a matter to raise. New borrowers are being sought in Stanton by the WRVS ‘Books on Wheels’ service. Mrs Ferrar on Stanton Lane is the local contact. Her phone number is 937 2838.
