Minutes of a meeting of STANTON ON THE WOLDS Parish Council held on Wednesday July 9, 2008, at 7.30pm at the Parish Church Couns. Mrs Margaret Healy (Chairman) Jim Goodman (Vice chairman) (A) Roy H Butler Bryan Baines Mike Sheriston Alex McKee Also present: The clerk Mike Elliott and one member of the public. 298/8] APOLOGIES were received from Coun. Jim Goodman and the reason accepted. Coun. John Cottee (Notts County Council) and Coun. Mrs Fiona Mason (Rushcliffe Borough Council) also sent apologies. 299/8] DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST Coun. Butler expressed a personal interest in planning application 08/01091/FUL. 300/8] MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING held on May 14, 2008, were accepted as presented and signed by the chairman. 301/8] CLERK’S REPORT There was nothing to report. 302/8] CASUAL VACANCY The council considered three applications for membership through the casual vacancy caused by the resignation of Coun. Dennis Hackett. The clerk confirmed a letter had been sent to Coun. Hackett thanking him for his services. Members agreed that during his nine years service he had given much time and effort on behalf of the council, especially his work on the history book and the website. The meeting agreed that voting for the vacancy should be by signed ballot. As a result of the voting Mrs Angela Benney was co-opted. The clerk was asked to write to Dr Nigel Day and Mrs Jeanette Hackett to thank them for their interest in putting their names forwards. 303/8] CORRESPONDENCE Notts County Council confirmed they had made the Footpath No 7 Diversion Order. Rushcliffe Borough Council advised of their Parish Planting and Landscaping Schemes programme for 2008/2009 and members felt an application should be made for funding towards the planting of more trees, bushes and daffodils near to the village name sign on the Browns Lane corner. Rushcliffe Borough Council also advised of their rolling programme for the Small Environmental Improvement Schemes and members were to look into that further and would come forward with ideas. Coun. John Cottee advised that the County Council Highways Department were looking to deal with the standing water problem on the Stanton Lane corner. 304/8] PLANNING MATTERS A discussion took place on the general management of applications received by the parish council. It was agreed an agenda item be put forward to the next meeting with Coun. Butler being asked to prepare a short report on options open to members. Planning Applications 08/01091/FUL Mr Robinson; Detached garage and store, enclose previously approved canopy to form lounge, add dormer to existing garage; 5 Melton Road. Object on grounds of the inappropriate development of the garage into another dwelling. 08/01112/FUL Mr and Mrs McIntosh; Erect dwelling; 143 Browns Lane. No objection 08/01169/AGRIC P and J Guthrie; Erect agricultural implements silage bale store building; Lodge on the Wolds, Fosse Way. No objection Rushcliffe Borough Council Decisions 08/00459/FUL M A and A D McLaren; Two storey agricultural workers dwelling; OS Field 5133; Browns Lane. Grant Permission 08/00479/FUL Mr M Leckie; Single storey rear extension with attached outdoor hot tub and decking; 60 Stanton Lane. Grant Permission 08/00645/FUL Mr Varley; Alterations to dwelling including insertion of new windows; 3 Charleswold Court, Thurlby Lane. Grant Permission 305/8] VILLAGE AMENITIES / ENVIRONMENT Discussion took place on the question of grass cutting at the village sign. The clerk was asked to seek information from the contractor for a price for both cutting the grass as he did now – at a price of £15 per cut, and for collecting up the grass instead of leaving it. Members were told that a new gate had been provided at the substation on Browns Lane. Concerns were expressed at the speed of traffic travelling along Thurlby Lane with a suggestion some kind of traffic calming measure was needed. The meeting agreed the clerk should make strong representations to Notts County Council pointing out there were a number of children living alongside the lane and the dangers were severe. Discussions took place on the proposed Village Walk on August 9. The parish church had given the go ahead for use of the car park and the church. The clerk was to advise the council insurers of the event. Coun. Butler volunteered to remain in church during the actual walk to ensure the safety of belongings left by those taking part. Anyone interested in taking part would be asked to contact Couns. Jim Goodman or Mike Sheriston. After the guided walk along the parish footpaths those taking part would return to the church for a picnic. The walkers would meet at the parish church at 2.00pm. 306/8] HISTORY BOOK The council confirmed the selling price of the remaining books at £4. The book remained free to newcomers to the village.
307/8] FINANCIAL MATTERS Members agreed payment of account as per the schedule presented. It was agreed to move £5,000 from the council’s current bank account to the National Savings account. 308/8] SPEEDING TRAFFIC, STANTON LANE The question of a revival of the efforts to form a speedwatch group in the village was to be raised at the next meeting. Concerns continued to be expressed at dangers on Stanton Lane. 309/8] NEXT MEETING was confirmed for September 10, 2008. 310/8] PUBLIC SESSION No matters were raised. 311/8] AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING No items for discussion at the next parish council meeting were put forward.
